Celebrating World Bacon Day? August 30 is World Bacon Day this year. World Bacon Day falls on the Saturday before Labour Day each year.  Anytime there is a world anything day, it usually means FREEBIES!
While World Bacon Day started in the USA more Canadians are getting into the spirit of things. The Canadian Province celebrating World Bacon Day loudest and proudest is Quebec - at least according to my Google search results. Around the Ontario Pork sites there wasn't the slightest whiff of "World Bacon Day".What did you find in your corner of Canada? How were people promoting World Bacon Day?

Did you know 6 slices of bacon has 150% of your daily recommended  sodium ? Being frugal with bacon and extending that delicious taste and smell will be better for your pocket, and your health.did you know it takes 180 grams of feed to make 100 gms of Bacon? I found it was odd that bacon with more fat costs farmers more to grow, yet at the store bacon with the least fat is usually priciest. 

Here are some bacon stretching recipes I discovered:

1. Bacon Candles - Use alll your bacon. Just put the bacon fat in a jar with a wick! Really? Welll...lll according to the folks on Pinterest.
2. Bacon Grease Biscuits - Paleo Mama has 20 Bacon Grease recipees -not all frugal. My Nana saved her bacon grease for biscuits and piecrusts for savoury pies.. Does your family have a bacon grease tin or mug?
3. Bacon Brittle - Sweet n Salty a little goes a long way.
4. Bacon Cheesburger Pie - Uses 5 strips of Bacon- but a LOT of hamburger.

World Bacon Day Celebrators often hold Bacon Potluck parties. Challenge each other to find the bacon recipe with the strongest bacon flavour but containing the least bacon!
